Il film, ambientato nella
Scozia medievale, nel regno del clan Dumbrok, ha come protagonista la principessa Merida, che racconta la sua storia in
prima persona.
Il giorno del suo sesto compleanno, Merida riceve in dono dal padre re Fergus un arco, anche se la
madre, la regina Elinor, non è d'accordo. Mentre è nella foresta per recuperare la freccia 

da lei
precedentemente scoccata, Merida vede dei fuochi fatui, magiche creature dei boschi. Dopo essere tornata dai genitori, i
tre vengono attaccati dal malvagio orso nero Mor'du, che il 

padre affronta per dare il tempo a Merida ed
Elinor di fuggire. Durante il combattimento, la bestia recide e inghiotte la gamba di Fergus, che verrà poi
sostituita con una di legno. Dieci 

anni dopo Merida è una ragazza dolce, coraggiosa, ribelle e
sognatrice, diventata sorella di tre pestiferi gemelli. È inoltre diventata un'arciera infallibile e porta sempre con
sé l'arco 

regalatole dal padre quando era bambina...................
